..."Why, oh why... can't we rise above the politics of personal insult in Parliament?"...

Students with "disabilities"? You mean people who can't recognise that stabbing someone is a bad thing? Whaddaya call folks like that?

Oh yeah... sociopaths.

And would a "zero tolerance" policy have made any difference here? It sure sounds like it...
Erin McDonagh, who later brought flowers to the bus shelter, which quickly became a makeshift memorial, said it was common knowledge at school that the suspect carried a knife.
But heck, you're probably thinking... how often does some teenager get stabbed like this?

Well, as it turns out... that was the second one that day...
A 15-year-old boy was knifed late Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of St. Gertrude Separate Elementary School at 815 Ceremonial Dr., near McLaughin and Eglinton.

Ontario taxpayers are footing the bill for almost 219,000 new public sector workers who were added to the payroll in just over six years... when the current Dalton McGuinty government first gained power, according to Statistics Canada.

The Liberals, rebounding from the recession and with a projected deficit this year of almost $20 billion, has been touting a two-year public sector freeze to help stem the red ink.

Last year’s Salary Disclosure revealed that 53,572 Ontario public servants made more than $100,000 in 2008 — up 26% from the previous year.
And up another 19 percent this year.

That's why we call him McSlippery.

They don't come right out & say that... but the inference is as subtle as an ice-cold toilet seat. They even brought in a British spokesman to say that Canadians should stay.

Apparently it's okay to kowtow to an American president as long as it's Barack Obama. And that Hillary Clinton? She's just one straight-talkin' (translation: she's demanding the Canadian government support abortion on demand) gal.

Amazing... they don't even pretend not to have an agenda.

The first disadvantage of an elite education, as I learned in my kitchen that day, is that it makes you incapable of talking to people who aren’t like you.

It's not like he's a known terrorist...

...who lied and scammed his way into law school...
Cop killer Clinton Gayle has yet to be deported to Jamaica. But Citizenship and Immigration Canada is throwing the book at the law-abiding Mallozzi family?

They say they were told to go ahead and buy a house, put down some roots because they would get their two-year extension that would put them in good stead to apply for landed immigrant status and eventual Canadian citizenship. They paid $321,000 for their townhouse and became proud Oakville taxpayers.
It seems pretty obvious we're not talking here about welfare-sucking refugee claimants... (or, more outrageously, a child serial killer)... who'll be a life-long drain on Canadian taxpayers. So what's the real deal here?
What a disgrace. As my immigration expert colleague Tom Godfrey says “it seems heavy-handed” and it looks like the system has got “its token white family for the year.”
More to the point... how do we treat people who follow the rules and don't break the law or try to game the system?
We kick an eight-year-old girl out of school while slugs such as Const. Todd Baylis’ murderer, Gayle, have access to all the free schooling he wants.

If we can cut loads of criminals slack we can extend some leniency here.
The thing is... we're in such a mad rush to deport the Mallozzi family... but we're gonna give this guy a free pass?
-- BRANTFORD -- A convicted terrorist ordered deported from Canada two decades ago is still living with his family in a modest semi-detached bungalow in Brantford.

“Removing the unrealistic annual Medicare savings ($463 billion) and the stolen annual revenues from Social Security and long-term care insurance ($123 billion), and adding in the annual spending that so far is not accounted for ($114 billion) quickly generates additional deficits of $562 billion in the first 10 years,” Holtz-Eakin points out

-- TORONTO -- The teenaged girl whose testimony was the catalyst in the Jordan Manners murder investigation told her aunt that she had witnessed the act inside C.W. Jefferys Collegiate on May 23, 2007.

But the witness’ statement was never heard by the jury at the trial of two 20-year-olds, J.W. and C.D., accused of murdering the 15-year-old Manners.
But that's not all...
Another piece of evidence that the jury also never heard was that one particle of gunshot residue was found on one of the accused men’s right hand.

The test was taken seven hours after the shooting. But Justice Nordheimer ruled that the accused’s rights were violated as he didn’t consent to the test, and the police didn’t have a search warrant authorizing the test.

The Grits lost the vote after three of their own MPs opposed it; others abstained and some Liberal MPs, who are pro-life, were told to stay away from the Commons, according to sources.

And so confused were the Liberals after losing their own motion that on the following vote, Chief Opposition Whip Rodger Cuzner mistakenly told some of his MPs to vote with the government. They ended up supporting the Conservatives’ spending plans, which led to much glee and gloating from the government bench.

The lawsuit was filed in Pensacola after the Democratic president signed the 10-year, $938 billion bill the House passed Sunday night.

"This is the first time in American history where American citizens will be forced to buy a particular good or service," said Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning.
Oh, oh... looks like it's time to distract the audience.

Hey... maybe Barry can close down Gitmo like he promised... that'll set a cat among the pigeons.

Spinning Liberal Gold

Screw that whole "personal responsibility" deal... we've got abortions...
The Liberals are stirring the pot by using abortion rights as a wedge issue between their party and the Conservatives. And so far the Tories are falling into their trap.

Opposition strategists believe that every time a Tory says the word “abortion,” it’s gold for the Liberals.

“I think the politics is extremely shrewd, very smart. I think it’s exactly the right way to go,” former Paul Martin communications director Scott Reid said on CBC’s Power and Politics last night.

The next book on my list

There are plenty of disappointing books out there... but Mrs Neo has been reading me snippets from "Happy Birthday or Whatever" by Annie Choi.

Annie's the real deal and I just felt I had to share...
I was going to have the best birthday ever.

It would start with a parade — a dizzying spectacle of floats, prancing palominos, and the country’s loudest marching bands. There would be troupes of mimes and contortionists, foul-mouthed drag queens, and a man juggling little girls on fire.

Monkeys dressed in powder blue tuxedos would throw candy and tiny bottles of whiskey to the hordes of my fans lined up along Sixth Avenue.
That's how it starts off... but the real meat & potatoes is her take on family.

Not to be missed.

UPDATE: Judge addresses "code of silence"
-- TORONTO -- The judge presiding over the Jordan Manners trial has directed the Crown to investigate two key prosecution witnesses who disavowed their original statements to police.

Y.M. and S.D. "undermined the process" said Judge Nordheimer.
The only surprise here is that the two witnesses offered to testify in the first place... a virtually unheard of sin within "the community."

...a Liberal with a conscience...
Many lifelong Liberals, like me, are disgusted with Rae and Dosanjh and their antics. Their agenda is to do whatever they can to attack the Prime Minister and Defence Minister, even if it means tarring the reputation of Canada and the Canadian Forces.

It’s odd, I’ve never heard Rae or Dosanjh expend the same amount of energy on matters related to the deaths of 136 soldiers and diplomats violently killed in Afghanistan. I don’t recall Dosanjh expressing any concerns for detainees when he was a Liberal Minister in the Paul Martin Cabinet that expanded our Afghan mission.

Mr. Rae and Mr. Dosanjh are pretend Liberals looking for the fastest way to the top. They ditched their NDP buddies when they were no longer convenient. Now, they are prepared to ditch the men and women of Afghanistan for their own political ends.

And that, my friends, is the END GAME.
Hey, Bobby...Ujjal... you wanna talk about war crimes? Are you sure about that?
The fact of the matter is that if Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Defence Minister Peter MacKay or General Rick Hillier are guilty of war crimes, then so are the soldiers that carried out those orders. It was established at Nuremberg that, “just following orders” was not a valid defence.

If the members of Her Majesty’s Official Opposition were so confident in their assertions that war crimes occurred, they would be joining Professor Michael Byers from UBC in asking the ICC to investigate Canada.

They don’t for two reasons, firstly to do so would rob them of a weapon to beat the government over head with during question period, secondly, the Liberals are smart enough to realize that the Canadian public would not take kindly to our own politicians accusing our own soldiers of war crimes.

A party that did so would not see power for some time.

UPDATE: In other religion-related news...
Mr Fatah himself has returned to the fray, to argue that, long before Mohammed, the Jews were rogering jailbait like crazy. But that makes Dr Sultan's point for her.

Judaism and Christianity are imperfect, interpretative religions discerning the word of God as best they can. Islam believes it's got the final, perfect word of God by God, and that's that.

Every month, the most notorious child killer in the country gets $1,169.47 transferred to a trust account in his name.

He was approved for not only the Old Age Security (OAS) pension and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), but the maximum monthly benefits for both — $516.96 and $652.51 respectively.

So, anyway, I almost scored me...

...a freezer load of fresh venison the other night.

Jacklighting? A little poaching you ask?

Nothing so exotic I'm afraid.

Driving home the other night, about 10:30, pushing 60... (yeah, screw kilometers)... nice dry roads, a touch of moonlight... must've zoned out a little, because the gawds suddenly dropped a largish doe smack onto the right side of my lane... heading inbound.

Didn't even have time to punch the horn... just pulled hard left... praying the deer would take the other tack. And fortunately for me... this time... she pulled up & wheeled back the other way.

Under these sorts of circumstances, country road, a little ditch cover... I'm usually consciously scanning for movement and eyeball shine... but I guess I just got sloppy.

Anyway... took a few seconds to get the ol' rectum unpuckered... but the rest of the drive was uneventful. Just got to thinking about it again after reading about that second avalanche deal out west and thought I'd share.

Some days, I guess, you just catch a break.

Other days... not so much.

-- TEXAS -- More than 100 drivers in Austin, Texas found their cars disabled or the horns honking out of control, after an intruder ran amok in a web-based vehicle-immobilization system normally used to get the attention of consumers delinquent in their auto payments.
Always a few bugs in the system, I guess.
Police with Austin’s High Tech Crime Unit on Wednesday arrested 20-year-old Omar Ramos-Lopez, a former Texas Auto Center employee who was laid off last month, and allegedly sought revenge by bricking the cars sold from the dealership’s four Austin-area lots.

After I hung up, I realized that this story should be told. Besides being an attorney, I’ve also had the privilege of serving this great country in the United States Marine Corps. Having seen the ugly legislative process the Senate Bill had been through, I saw this as not just another tactic to pass the Senate Bill at all costs, but also as an affront to our liberties.

The Nature of the Beast?

Some researchers say that shift was rooted in a glitch in humanity’s primal circuitry, one that caused people to mistakenly treat strangers as relatives. Others think it’s a holdover of Stone Age-style thinking — that deep in our brains we see everyone we meet as part of our tiny family, and can’t imagine encountering someone who won’t ever be seen again.

That’s not what Henrich’s team thinks. To them, fairness between strangers at the individual level is what allows social organisms to thrive, and to out-compete more selfish societies.

From that perspective, fairness-promoting social norms and informal institutions — markets and religion — are an inevitable evolutionary step.
It seems that some of us are a little more "evolved" than others.

What's up with that?

Mr. Levant's affidavit states that he has no interest in personal information, and that Mr. Warman "has disclosed only a limited number of records relating to his own statement of claim, and almost no records relating to other matters pleaded in my statement of defence."

Those other matters relate to Mr. Warman's use of false personas as part of his hate-speech investigations.
