An encore performance...
The chairman of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. plans to resign as early as today in a pre-emptive strike by the McGuinty government aimed at heading off a potential scandal over lavish spending on travel and entertaining, sources say.

One source said the government was looking at whether to replace the entire board, and talks were still under way last night. The boardroom shakeup comes amid concerns by the McGuinty government that it could become embroiled in another scandal similar to the one involving eHealth Ontario, the sources said.

According to one of the sources, government officials are concerned that if they do not make changes at the board level, they could face criticism for not doing enough to reform the agency that has been dogged by scandal for several years.

The sources said government officials are scrambling to deal with OLG before documents come to light containing details about lavish spending on entertainment and travel by some executives of the agency.

In Tuesday's report, released by President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, the 90,000 deaths figure was couched as a "possibility" rather than a prediction.

Annually, about 36,000 Americans die of the regular flu, according to CDC estimates.

An emerging Canadian tradition

Investigate, my arse... get me a lawyer...
-- TORONTO -- A Canadian woman who was stranded for months in Kenya over false claims that she was an impostor is suing Ottawa for $2.5 million for her ordeal.
And regardless of all the talk of litigation... the investigation will proceed.
Sources say the ongoing probe, by the Foreign Affairs and Public Safety departments, will be wide-ranging and cover more than the controversial May 28 letter Khadour wrote that opened the door to Kenyan authorities to prosecute Mohamud, 31, before she was able to prove her identity with a DNA test.
Despite the best efforts of the opposition and the media to portray this as more "systemic racism" at the behest of the federal government... this situation appears to have come about largely as the result of the actions of one Canadian diplomat.

And presumably, there would have to be more conclusive evidence than a bad passport picture.
"Please be advised that we have carried out conclusive investigations including an interview and have confirmed that the person brought to the Canadian High Commission on suspicion of being an impostor is not the rightful holder of the aforementioned passport," the letter stated.
Apparently, Ms. Khadour now has a "team of lawyers"... who, presumably, are also not interested in the money...
One of her lawyers, Julian Falconer, called her ordeal “Kafkaesque.”

An inquiry must be called to investigate whether Mohamud's race and culture played a role in how she was treated, said Falconer, who represented Maher Arar in his lawsuit against Ottawa.

“If a Caucasian person had been in Suaad's position in Kenya, would she have received the callous and reckless treatment she did?” he said.

Remember all the fuss...

...the media and the opposition parties were making about visa requirements for Czechs and Mexicans?
Prior to 2007, Czech nationals were previously required to have visas when visiting Canada.

But since the restriction was lifted, the number of Czechs filing refugee claims soared to roughly 3,000 last year, compared to just five in all of 2005 when the earlier visa rule was still in effect.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney has accused some Czech citizens of abusing Canada's generous asylum system by jumping the immigration queue and entering Canada basically as economic migrants.

He said that on average, each refugee claim costs Canadian taxpayers $29,000.
Now 3,000 claims times $29,000 equals... oh my gawd!!!!

That, of course, doesn't even include the cost of housing and feeding 3000 refugees. And that is only Czechs.

So, the net effect of the Conservative government imposing a visa requirement... has been what?
The number of refugee claims from Czech citizens was reduced to just three in the 30 days since July 16, compared to the 155 claims made in the two weeks prior to the policy taking effect.

“The action has met the policy objective of significantly reducing the number of asylum claims,” he said.

“That has relieved some of the pressure on the refugee system.”

Once again, the jihadis get caught with their hand in the big media cookie jar.
Earlier on Saturday, Hakimullah Mehsud had told reporters by telephone that Baitullah Mehsud was in good health and would soon appear in the media to prove that he was alive.
It's a kind of toddler thing, sticking to their outlandish party line despite all evidence to the contrary... knowing that the fuzzy-bunny media has to feed the nonstop 24 hour news cycle... and hoping that the actual facts get buried somewhere down the road.

Like the Pallywood nonsense, where "Green Helmet Guy" ran around in a refrigerated truck salting bombed out buildings with the same dead bodies... so local AP stringers could build up a nice "war crimes" portfolio.

And the legendary "Magic Bullet Woman."
The woman in the photo—Uncle Jimbo notes that she looks like the same woman—makes a very similar claim, holding up bullets that she claims hit her house.

And they very well may have hit her house, if the were tossed or kicked in that direction, but it is quite obvious that bullets still in their cartridge casings have never been fired by a gun.
The media, of course, in all these instances didn't choose to ask ANY questions... the infamous... "if it bleeds, it leads."

Wake up folks... and smell the real jihad. The glorious revolution that's being piped right into your livingroom.

On the bright side it looks as though there's a chance to get some real intel here. Ironically, I betcha these guys are praying that they'll be handed over to the CIA and whisked away to Guantanamo... where a little water-boarding and sleep deprivation would be a relative walk in the park.

Anyone else find it ironic that the left, which wants us to believe every scientific fact when it comes to global warming (even when it might not really BE a fact), will continually push for "traditional" medicine of dubious scientific merit?

From the folks who brought you...

...lead-painted baby toys...
Hundreds of people angry about the lead poisoning of their children attacked a metal smelting plant suspected of causing the problem.

About 100 police officers were sent to Shaanxi province's Changqing township after villagers broke into the smelting plant Monday.

The attack comes after medical tests revealed at least 615 children in two nearby villages have excessive levels of lead in their blood. These children live near the Dongling Lead and Zinc Smelting Company plant.
Yup... that's some economic miracle.
A Chinese government report says the number of birth defects in the country has risen by almost forty percent since 2001. Officials are linking the rise to China's worsening environmental degradation, as Claudia Blume reports from Hong Kong.

Dying with Dignity

You wanna kill yourself, dude... what's wrong with barbiturates and a bottle of single-malt?
-- TORONTO -- A 27-year-old man is still clinging to life in hospital after plunging from the top of a second-floor escalator late yesterday.

Toronto Police said the man had climbed on top of the escalator railing inside 10 Dundas St. E. around 11:40 p.m.

"By all accounts, we have a 27-year-old who was attempting to ride the hand rail of an escalator...and fell," Const. Wendy Drummond said. "He fell down to the floor.
I'm still shaking my head over reports of the apparently intoxicated Toronto man... who committed suicide-by-dumbass...
Police are trying to figure out what prompted a partially naked man to jump into a downtown Toronto fountain head first early Sunday morning.

The man was pronounced dead after emergency crews found him floating in the water with no vital signs.

"It's that under socialized medicine (which I happen to live under, and you don't)... Grandma might not get plugged in in the first place."

Now, I'm just spitballin' here... but the next time I walk into an emergency room with a sick fevered child... it'd be nice to not spend seven and a half hours waiting to see a doctor.

"Then in the kids less than 3 months, or just sick looking kids it can be meningitis, encephalitis, or sepsis all of which can be treated and have a decent chance of preventing permanent damage if treated rapidly. The only way to prevent it is by immediate treament with antibiotics or antivirals."

"When I see a fevered kid on the chart rack I take him first. If it is a simple viral thing he goes home fast and I don't have to listen to screaming."

As many as four children a week are showing up without parents or loved ones at Niagara Falls border crossings to file refugee claims to stay in Canada, U.S. immigration workers say.

And some suspect unscrupulous consultants could be behind the scheme to send child refugees here for a hefty fee so that one day they can sponsor their parents.

More than 1,000 children filed claims at Canadian borders from 2000 to 2004, according to a 2007 study.

Just another reason why...

...Afghanistan so desperately needs a western-style democracy...
An Afghan bill allowing a husband to starve his wife if she refuses to have sex has been published in the official gazette and become law.

The original version obliged Shia women to have sex with their husbands every four days at a minimum, and it effectively condoned rape by removing the need for consent to sex within marriage.

Now an amended version of the same bill has passed quietly into law with the apparent approval of President Karzai.
And let's remember folks... that Karzai is actually a pretty pro-western guy as Afghanis go. Nevertheless, he is indelibly tainted by links to opium smuggling warlords and odious stuff like this legislation.

Of course, you have to consider the alternative...
The word spread fast: anyone caught voting in the presidential election will have his finger — the one inked for the ballot — cut off.
It kinda comes down to, "Who do you want drivin' the crazy bus?"

Just try imagine what this country was like before western intervention.
"Improvements in medical care since the Taliban fell five years ago have led to a marked decrease in Afghanistan's infant mortality rates - 40,000 fewer infant deaths a year."
Scary, scary stuff.

Toronto’s latest homicide victim met his fate under the blazing sun yesterday, outside a housing complex where another man was shot less than two weeks earlier.

Ah yes... Chicago, Illinois

That's the place they've got all those "community organisers" isn't it...
The two largest public school systems in Illinois are under scrutiny, with federal prosecutors investigating links between important admissions decisions and political clout.

The University of Illinois and the Chicago Public School system are involved in separate cases that involve possible manipulation of the admissions process by state power brokers, which in the university case, includes disgraced former governor Rod Blagojevich and convicted influence dealer Tony Rezko.

Between 2003 and 2007, for example, the college of law wrongly admitted about 24 politically-connected applicants in exchange for scholarship money, according to the report.
Hmmm... Tony Rezko... that sounds so familiar.

-- HARLEM -- The place may have looked like an easy mark, a high-cash business with an owner in his 70s, known as a gentle, soft-spoken man.

Mr. Augusto, whom neighborhood friends call Gus, rose from a chair 20 to 30 feet away and took out a loaded Winchester 12-gauge pump-action shotgun with a pistol-grip handle. The police said he bought it after a robbery 30 years ago.
And talk about transformative justice...
The first shot took down the gunman at the front. He died almost immediately, according to the police, who said he was 29 and had been arrested for gun possession in Queens last year and was the nephew of a police officer.

Mr. Augusto’s other two blasts hit all three accomplices, who stumbled out the door, bleeding.

The names of the men who were shot — two dead and two wounded — were not immediately released by the authorities.
**********

UPDATE: Taking care of his employees
After the employee was struck, Mr. Augusto picked up his shotgun and fired it three times.

The employee, who goes by J.B. said, “Better him with a tag on his toe than my mother planning a funeral for me.”

Suaad Mohamud - the untold story

Hmmm... perhaps it wasn't the Conservative brownshirts after all...
Leading the pack in this regard has been the Toronto Star's Christopher Hume who, as already noted, uncorked an unhinged rant citing the episode as evidence that Canada has become an "apartheid" state.

But who is the Canadian Vice Consul in Kenya — the Canadian government's main actor on this case, and the person who allegedly persuaded the Kenyans to lock Mohamud up?

Following the logic of Hume, one would assume she is some neo-Nazi thug who Harper picked up off the streets of Calgary and dispatched to Africa with instructions to keep the blacks out of our backyards.

Oops: As highlighted in the following Muslim Canadian Congress press release, turns out the woman is a female Egyptian-Canadian bureaucrat.

In other words — to the entirely unproven extent we are dealing with any kind of racial animus at all — what we are allegedly confronting is not White-on-black racism, but Arab-on-black racism (the same kind of racism behind the extermination of hundreds of thousands of blacks in Darfur).

Arabs vs. blacks? Not quite as sexy as "apartheid," is it Mr. Hume?

Boulakia also dismissed comments by Lucas Naikuni, a Kenyan lawyer, who said in Nairobi on Friday that Mohamud would be taking legal action against the Canadian government, the Kenyan government and KLM.

When asked if his client might pursue legal action in Canada, Boulakia would only say, "At this point I want her to get medical care and then I'm going to be having discussions with her."

Bloodied and dazed Afghans wandered the street after Saturday's blast, which rattled the capital and sent a black plume of smoke skyward. Children – many of whom congregate outside the NATO gate to sell gum to Westerners – were among the wounded. Windows of nearby antique shops were shattered and blood smeared the ground.

The Taliban claimed responsibility and said the target was the NATO headquarters and the U.S. Embassy some 150 yards (meters) down the street.

Crime is down, my arse

All those homicide numbers really mean... is that Toronto has amazing paramedics... and a thousand Vin Diesel wannabes...
-- TORONTO -- Police are still seeking one gunman after a 25-year-old Toronto man was arrested yesterday for shooting a man outside of a mid-rise complex area with families and children nearby.

The victim, Zabiullah Mojaddedi, 22, intervened in a robbery in front of 47 Gilder Dr. near Eglinton Avenue East shortly after 8 p.m. on Aug. 5. Police say two suspects tried to rob two of Mr. Mojaddedi's acquaintances.

Today, Tristan Lall appeared briefly in court, charged with first-degree murder. The second suspect is described as a black male who is 5'4 to 5'6 with a medium build and collar-length hair worn in braids.
But, but, but... I don't understand... wasn't this guy under a lifetime ban from possessing weapons? Why... he's just not playing by the rules!!!!

It is important to note that, whatever the current number of homicides are in Toronto... there have been over 150 shootings and over 200 victims to date.

Again... if it wasn't for Level III paramedics and all these assholes turning their cheap-ass Saturday Night Specials' sideways, like in their favourite rap video... the carnage would be much, much worse.
