Happy birthday, Sheikh Nasrullah

Let's hear it for the celebrated military tactician and proud father of... Operation Punch myself in the Face.
Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah refused to emerge from his bunker on Thursday to celebrate his 46th birthday.

Nasrallah said that he preferred to celebrate with his "warriors" when security conditions made it possible to do so.
Well, Hassan, old son, you did go to war with Israel, so I'm guessin' that'd be, probably... well... Ummmm... for now lets go with a really good sunlamp and a three year subscription to HBO.

You might be down there a while.

Won't... or can't?

This announcement appears to be face-saving OPP-speak for, "the natives still won't let us anywhere near this property."
Ontario Provincial Police said they will not investigate a small fire that broke out last night at the site occupied by native protesters in Caledonia. An OPP spokesperson said no criminal activity is suspected and damage is minimal.
I'm not sure how the OPP can claim to know anything about it, as local police & fire crews were both prevented from responding.

A fire crew from the nearby Six Nations reserve were allowed in at some point.
Six Nations Fire Chief Michael Seth said the blaze in the unfinished home had been extinguished by the time his firefighters arrived at the Argyle Street South property. He said the injured were people on the site, "that were fighting the fire prior to our arrival."

They suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital. Seth said the cause is under investigation, but damage was minimal. He said his department was notified of the fire by the OPP and he was not sure whether the people occupying the site allowed Caledonia firefighters to come onto the land.
Three people hospitalised doesn't seem minimal to me, but maybe that's only in my neighbourhood.

Caledonia Wakeupcall is reporting that a native protestor torched the house after being asked by fellow protestors to vacate the premises. Bravo for life's little ironies.

Fixing Caledonia.

Jane Stewart, the person making $1300 per day, is going from house to house on Braemar Ave & Thistlemoor in Caledonia.

She is meeting with residents and telling them the following:

1) The Natives do not have any Legal Claim to this Land.

2) What do you think if the Government was to build a Lacrosse Field and Information Booth on the DCE land?

More than weenies roasted...

...in Caledonia. Never mind the fire last night.

**********
UPDATE: Fire was a torch job. Just another example of native solidarity.
A fire was set in one of the homes, allegedly by someone who was staying in the home, after they were asked to leave so that the house could be worked on. The person that was staying there said that they had been staying there from the start and that it was their home. They also said that they would set it on fire if they were forced to leave.
********** So, is Dalton McGuinty going to ignore another blatant crime? Well, you know, it's only arson.

Local Mayor Marie Trainer asked the Ontario government who's paying for the hydro & water at Douglas Creek Estates.

Surprise... it's you, the taxpayer!

Subject: RE: hydro bill at DCE

Hi Marie:

I thought I had made it clear at a past Liaison Table meeting that the Province had taken over responsibility for water and hydro services to the DCE property. As you know, we are the rightful owner, so it is our responsibility to pay the bills as we do on all property we own. Because we are the owner, it will be up to us to decide if and when services are to be discontinued or adjusted in any way. I hope this clarifies the Provinces position on this matter. Please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions.

Thanks, John
Of course, that's loose change compared to what MP Jane Stewart is getting from the Dalton gang.
Stewart's contract sets out a maximum of $300,000 for the 11-month contract. On top of that, she can charge up to $30,000 in expenses.
In case you're wondering... that's also you, the taxpayer, padding Ms. Stewart's retirement fund.

Facilitating death.

I'm betting Stephen Harper is gonna be filing this leftwing lunacy under "Not on my watch."
Susie Ruttan, who runs a group called From Grief to Action, told a news conference that families across the country are struggling with the shame of having drug-addicted children who can't get the help they need.

"We're a caring, loving, professional family," Ruttan told a news conference. "We have three kids and I'd like to say to Mr. Harper: 'This could be your child.' "
Except that, if you're really, truly involved in your child's upbringing; teaching them respect for self, as well as others; how to differentiate right from wrong... I kind of doubt it.

Apparently, so did Ms. Ruttan, until she somehow saw the light & hopped on board the Enabler Express.
"To be perfectly honest with you, I was a little bit squeamish initially about the concept of a place where our children, adult children, would be going to put poison into their arms," Ruttan said.
Now, while I sympathise with this woman's plight, I refuse to accept that providing drug-addled teenagers with syringes and a comfy place to shoot up,* (which takes care of the two lesser things on a junkie's three item hierarchy of needs) is the best answer to this problem.

Funding these places is like finding out your child has an insane compulsion to speed through red lights... and then, instead of ripping the car keys out of their hands, you go out and buy a Volvo stationwagon.

*There have been 400 recorded drug overdoses at this site.

UPDATE: Ottawa, August 28, 2006
The RCMP supports the four pillar approach of Canada’s Drug Strategy on illicit substance use and abuse which are: prevention, treatment, harm reduction and enforcement. Clearly, harm reduction initiatives must encourage a transition to treatment and not facilitate a state of perpetual use.
UPDATE: 9:40 PM EDT ON 01/09/06
Vancouver's safe injection site will be kept open until December of 2007, after getting a last-minute reprieve from federal Health Minister Tony Clement.
Two words. Surprised. Disappointed. And I'm not the only one.
While the Vancouver Police Department's position has been supportive of the facility, rank-and-file members of the force voted unanimously yesterday to call on the government to shut it down.

In a scathing rejection of the official department policy by Chief Jamie Graham that the injection site has been successful and should continue operating with federal approval, Constable Tom Stamatakis said the program has been a failure.

"We're not going to be bullied into supporting this like others. We're seeing unprecedented levels of crimes," he said. "They're thinking this is a simple solution to a complex problem and this is the easiest way to respond."

Tories batting better than .500

Interesting article in The Hill Times.
The Conservative government has addressed or achieved more than half of its election campaign promises since taking power, according to an analysis by The Hill Times.

In 234 promises in 58 different categories of their campaign platform, the Conservatives have delivered fully or partially on 135 items, a 57.6 per cent completion rate.
According to Government Whip Jay Hill...
"We made promises that we believed were and are achievable and we intend to work as hard as we can to achieve them," he said. "If it's not possible in the sense that the opposition combines to defeat them or dramatically amend it, we're quite prepared to go back to the electorate..."

More scary, hidden agenda

The Harper government is cracking down on the disadvantaged... just as the Libs & Dippers warned us that they would.
OSHAWA, Ont. — The federal government plans to unveil legislation that would make it more difficult, if not impossible, for those facing gun-related charges to be released on bail.
So what exactly is being proposed here?
Among the Conservative's reforms were plans to introduce mandatory minimum sentences for those convicted of gun crimes and the end of house arrest for those convicted of violent crimes, sexual offences, weapons crimes, and impaired driving causing death.
Surely the Conservative cabal won't violate any more of the rights of society's weakest links?
Mr. Toews said his staff is working aggressively on the government's criminal law agenda and plans to introduce the bail changes and legislation that would repeal the Faint-Hope clause in the fall and winter sessions.
The thumps you just heard were Jack Layton and his oh-so-equal partner Olivia... fainting into their granola.

The only reason...

...this guy isn't rotting in a cell somewhere, is that he snitched out his terrorist buddies.
Mr. Khadr, who is a Canadian citizen, was captured in Afghanistan in 2001 and was held for months as an “enemy combatant” by U.S. forces at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was released in 2003, but only after he agreed to spy for the United States.
Khadr has demonstrated his complete lack of loyalty to anything or anyone; betraying Canada AND his terrorist playmates. I wouldn't let this guy walk my dog, never mind give him a Canadian passport.
Abdurahman Khadr's parents had left Canada in the 1990s to raise him and his siblings in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. For a time, the family even lived in the same compound as Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants.
Apparently the whole family lives in a moral vacuum.
Omar Khadr, 19, remains in the U.S.-run Cuban jail, having spent the past four years there facing allegations that he had killed a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan. U.S. courts judged this summer that the legal regime at Guantanamo Bay is illegal, making it anyone's guess as to when Omar Khadr may actually face trial.

Sister Zaynab Khadr, 26, and brother Karim Khadr, 17, have lately appeared in a Brampton, Ont., court to lend emotional support to a group of Toronto terrorism suspects. The accused were arrested in June in connection with an alleged al-Qaeda-inspired truck-bomb conspiracy.
I support Peter McKay and the government on this one.

More details from Frontline.
Okay, the first time I went to training I was 11-and-a-half years old. … My brother was 12 and we went to Khalden. We took the first course, which is the assault rifles course. We stayed in the course for two months and then we went back to Pakistan.

And then since like, I could say since '92 until 2003 I've been to Khalden like five times. I took an assault rifle course, explosive-making course, snipers, pistols, and … a course that includes all of these.

Why not reclaim Queens Park?

It's not like Dalton McGuinty's gonna stop them.
Toronto — Hopes for a quick end to the ongoing aboriginal standoff in Caledonia, Ont., faded even more Tuesday as Six Nations protesters asked for donations of food and building supplies to help maintain their occupation through the winter.
In fact, it sounds like he's paying them to do this thing.
People have quit their jobs and dedicated the last six months to the occupation, Ms. Jamieson said, and they will continue to do so until the land is returned to Six Nations — even if it means staying there throughout the winter.

Frum on Ignatieff

Who is Michael Ignatieff?

According to himself...(via Valpy@theglobe)
Then the next words come out in a rush: "I think there are people who would say I've been very ruthless in my life. I am someone who has worried greatly about the price my ruthlessness has inflicted on others.

"I don't want to litter the slopes with bodies. There may be people who I've left behind who feel that I was ruthless, and if they feel that, then all I can say is — I wouldn't apologize — all I could say is, I don't want to hurt people.
"
According to his brother...
We went for a walk, and he said, ‘I want to make one thing absolutely clear to you. When we're at Aunt Helen's house or Aunt Charity's house, you can say whatever you want to me. But if you ever see me on the school grounds, (prep school Upper Canada College) you're not to talk to me. You're not to recognize that I'm your brother. You don't exist as far as I'm concerned. Do I make myself clear?'”
He also wrote a book.
Scar Tissue is not merely a study of decline and death: It is a work by a man without empathy trying to understand those who possess it; of a man who has arrogantly separated himself from the suffering human race grappling with the realization that he belongs to it...
It's an interesting read.

Hezbollah leaders "regret"

In an interview with Lebanese television last night, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah said: “We did not think, even 1 per cent, that the capture would lead to a war at this time and of this magnitude. You ask me, if I had known on July 11 . . . that the operation would lead to such a war, would I do it? I say no, absolutely not.”
Sheikh Nasrullah has just realised his name is indelibly inscribed on the Israeli counter-terror shopping list.

I'm hoping he's not too fond of the great outdoors, cos' if he ever, ever steps outside of his rathole bunker, some Israeli pilot or Mossad sniper team is gonna be hanging around, just waiting to change his horoscope. *(not my wish btw, just the way they do business)*

I pointed out the short-range aspect of Sheikh Nasrullah's tactics back on July 14th.

If indeed the First Nations people are on the land with the concurrence of your government, why are the barricades needed? Isn't it reasonable that you might make it a condition of that concurrence that those barricades come down prior to the kids returning to the nearby school, as I suggested to you in my earlier letter?

I respectfully suggest to you that your failure to insist on a minimum standard of behaviour over the past six months has led to disrespect for the law and a series of potentially negative precedents.

The propaganda machine

The Canadian Tamil Congress thinks they are being unfairly treated in the media.
"In the strongest of terms possible, we categorically condemn this isolated incident," Kavitha Pathinathar, a spokeswoman with the CTC, said during a news conference in Toronto.

"They are not members of our organization. We have a diverse membership. It would be patently unfair if the allegations are in any way attributed to the Canadian Tamil Congress," she said.
Well, right off the hop, that's a bit of a lie.
David Poopalapillai, a national spokesman for the CTC, confirmed that Sahilal Sabaratnam, 27, one of the Canadians arrested Saturday in Long Island, N.Y., was the CTC's communications director for ''about a year'' in 2005.
So when exactly did Mr. Sabaratnam resign as Canadian Tamil Congress "Director of Communications"... to allegedly take up a new career as a freelance "Merchant of Death"? I'd also like to see the CTC flesh out that statement about the diversity of their membership, reflecting, no doubt... a broad strata of society.

To no ones surprise, when asked by reporters if the CTC would publicly repudiate the Tamil Tigers terrorist tactics, Mr. Poop stated...
"We are not spokespersons for the LTTE . . . we have no ties with the LTTE whatsoever."
I think everybody concerned would be better off sticking with the stripper story.

UPDATE: The Tigers recently cut off the water supply to 15,000 civilians.
The situation on the island caught media attention just recently when on July 26 a sluice water gate was closed to majority Sinhalese villages in Trincomalee and what followed was a "water war." Soon enough fighting resumed in the area, spreading into the predominantly Muslim community of Muttar and the Jaffna peninsula in the north.
The scoop from Mr. Poop (see 'moral equivalence').
"Just because 15,000 people are not getting water, and because they are Sinhalese, it is a big deal, but on the other hand, there are more than 50,000 Tamils from Jaffna who are living in refugee camps..."
Yup, no support for terrorism here.

Illegal to use race based statistics?

Unless your thesis is that the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force is actually a racist death squad.
A report commissioned by the African Canadian Legal Clinic that claims a black person is 37 times more likely to be shot and killed by police in Toronto was condemned by the head of the city's police union yesterday.
So what is the stated disparity here?
The report states that one black person per 38,700 was shot and killed by police in Toronto.

For whites, the number was one in 1.4 million people.
The Globe and Mail wants a piece of this.
Black people make up 27 per cent of provincial deaths from police use of force and 34 per cent of fatal police shootings, despite representing just 3.6 per cent of the population.
Let's examine the circumstances under which these people met their maker. Oops, no can do... that information is strangely absent.

Now, I'm no mathematician, but it's possible there may be another explanation here. You could go with the Police Death Squad theory, as per the African Canadian Legal Clinic, or maybe, just maybe... within the black community in Toronto, an individual is statistically 37 times more likely to present a weapon, or attempt to use deadly force on a police officer than his white counterpart.

Shsssssshhhh.

UPDATE: Let's check with Toronto Crimestoppers.

Holy crap... they're part of the racist conspiracy too!

But remember what this is about. This isn't about putting women into the kitchen, or taking away their right to vote, or making it legal for men to abuse women. This is about whether women's interests are best served by placing a government department in charge of it.
Ok, I'm convinced.

What's not to love?

We all seen politicians, who, when you ask them a simple yes or no question, proceed to dance around the answer like Rudolph Nureyev on tainted crack.

A refreshing exception is the Anti-Dithers, Prime Minister Stephen Harper. He just comes right at you.
OTTAWA - Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Tuesday it's not unfair to liken Hezbollah to the Nazis, who once ruled Germany, because both stand for the destruction of the ''Jewish nation.''
That, my friend, is a straight answer.

Contrast that with former Liberal Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Anne McLellan back when Stockwell Day asked her to declare the Tamil Tigers a terrorist organisation.
Mr. Speaker, as I have said, we take our responsibilities very seriously in relation to listing terrorist entities. We will continue to review entities. We make regular risk assessments in relation to a host of organizations. We take our obligation seriously. Listing is obviously a serious act; it carries serious consequences. We will continue to review these situations, and we will list as we deem appropriate.
Which really means, "If you think we're gonna risk pissing off the largest Tamil population in the world outside of Sri Lanka itself, which goes heavily Liberal each and every election, you sir, must be nuts."

The good news of course, as mentioned in a previous post, is that mere weeks after coming to office, the Conservatives pulled the plug on the Tigers on April 8, 2006.

Which brings us back full circle, to... "How can you not love Stephen Harper & the Conservatives?"

For just today, forget politics, forget the Islamic bomb, forget the real world runs on a sea of grease.

If you don't love bulldozers, you'd better drop what you're doing and go straight to the nearest sex-change clinic... because you ARE officially a woman.

I just spent three exhilarating hours out back in our woods, watching a Cat 955 break a rough logging road through a half kilometre of previously impenetrable bush. At the end of the run, heading back to the house for beers, it felt like we'd won some sort of battle.

My wife thinks I may be mildly retarded. I say, "Vive la difference."

So what is about men and machinery?

From the time he was a few months old, my now ten year old son has loved planes, trains and machinery of any sort. His first word was not mummy or daddy... or even no.

It was car.

From a very early age... he made guns out of paper & scotch tape. Call me cocky, but I'm guessing he'll never be bringing home his very special friend Scott, or Thad, or whatever. Does that make me some kind of Neanderthal?

Well, tough shit. I still love bulldozers.

Three less Liberal voters

*******************
UPDATE: 5:33 AM EDT ON 23/08/06 False Alarm - Tamils were looking for strippers, not missiles. Well, that explains the $900,000.00 they had with them.
*******************

There have been numerous articles in the mainstream media about how the Liberal Party has been shamelessly courting Tamil organisations in Toronto, despite their knowledge of close ties to the Tamil Tigers.
In the Spring of 2000, the LTTE made significant gains on the battlefield in Sri Lanka. On May 6, 2000 the Canadian Finance Minister Paul Martin and Maria Minna, the Minister of International Cooperation, attended a fund-raiser for an LTTE front group. This was interpreted by the Tigers as an approval for the group by this country's leadership.
Now the chickens have come home to roost.
WASHINGTON — Eight men linked to the Tamil Tigers rebel group, including three Canadians, are facing charges they conspired to buy surface-to-air missiles from an undercover agent in the United States.
In truth, the Libs really didn't care. They certainly can't say they weren't warned.
The Liberals repeatedly refused recommendations from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service to designate the Tigers as a terrorist group under the Anti-terrorism Act. But weeks after coming to office, the Conservatives finally banned the group on April 8.

What do Liberals & New Democrats...

...have against Israel?

Liberal Borys Wrzesnewskyj said Israel has wrought "utter devastation'' on Lebanon in response to two Israeli soldiers being kidnapped by Hezbollah militants.

Well, it might not be that simple, Borys my friend. Even if the Liberal Party considers kidnapping a deductible offence (and in my book, it's not), how about firing rockets across the border at a sovereign nation?

Mark Steyn weighs in...
If, say, some fellows in Mexico had kidnapped California state troopers and were lobbing rockets randomly into residential areas of San Diego and Los Angeles, even La-La-Land libs would be demanding the US respond.

It's only the Israelis the world wishes to deny the conventional rights of sovereignty. In other words, it's the legitimacy of the state that's at issue. In effect, Israel has become the geopolitical version of the European Jew, who's allowed to operate a store in the town but not to exercise full ownership rights. In the old days, Jews faced property restrictions; now they face sovereignty restrictions.
It seems Borys is now backpedalling furiously about sucking up to Hezbollah. Peggy Nash so far just changes the words around in her statements... but hey, maybe she's just looking for a "third way."

Where are party leaders Bill Graham and Jack Layton, on throwing in with terrorists?

UPDATE: Mon. Aug. 21 2006 10:56 PM ET Bill Graham finally surfaces. Jack Layton is still in hiding.
Bill Graham, the Liberal Opposition leader, issued a statement late Monday saying "Hezbollah is a terrorist organization and should be treated as such under all applicable Canadian laws.'' "Any suggestion to the contrary does not reflect the official position of our party.''

So where are Bill Graham & Jack Layton on this one?

MEANWHILE: Conservatives hold the line.

No more whining...

I often wonder what my wife's grandfather (who spent a couple of years fighting in a muddy, rat infested hole in the ground in France) would think about all the public angst over having Canadian troops in combat in the Middle East.

I think the next person who starts whining about Canadian casualties in Afghanistan should get... (1.) slapped around 'til they stop spewing this hysterical shit and (2.) be forced to read, cover to cover, a history of WWI.
It has often been said that Canada’s sons left their home as young colonials but returned as Canadians. Vimy is indeed the birthplace of “Canadian Nationhood”.

The price was heavy: 10,500 casualties, including 3,598 dead.
That was one battle, by the way, not the whole war.

So how about it, you intellectually moribund, "no such thing as an evil person", terrorist hugging left-bots? Why don't you crawl off into your holes and give the rest of us a break?

The AIDS situation in Africa isn’t about junkies or self-indulgent, meth-amped party boys deciding to have sex without condoms (because they can take a retroviral cocktail and stave off imminent death).

It’s about hundreds of thousands of men, women and children caught in a death spiral of ignorance and leftwing lunacy. In actual fact, St. Nelson Mandela’s socialist paradise for black Africans is a miasma of suffering & death.

'TRADITIONAL TREATMENTS' FOR HIV/AIDS...

Sure, traditional treatments... such as going to the local witch doctor. Canada's Stephen Lewis sums it up succinctly.
Up to 800 people a day die of Aids in South Africa, Mr Lewis said. South Africa's Aids policy is "more worthy of a lunatic fringe than of a concerned and compassionate state," he said.
That sounds unbelievable, how can 300,000 people a year die in just one country? The short answer is... because it's government policy.
Earlier another keynote speaker said South Africa's health minister should resign because she had minimised the role of anti-retroviral drugs.

Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang said this week she wanted to give citizens choices, including traditional treatments like garlic, lemons and beetroots, instead of championing anti-retroviral drugs.
That seems to be the official government position. President Thabo Mbeki has stated that he believes AIDS is part of a conspiracy to murder blacks.
In 1999, he refused to allow distribution of AZT (a drug that inhibits HIV) to pregnant women and other South Africans suffering from AIDS. Instead, he publicly embraced the scientifically dissident position that HIV doesn't cause AIDS. The drug itself, Mbeki claimed, actually causes AIDS, and shortens rather than extends patients' lives.
It seems obvious this country's biggest problem isn't just a lack of funds, it's lack of reason and education.

As if a public health crisis isn't enough, Nelson Mandela's post-apartheid dream state also has a homicide rate that would stupefy Heinrich Himmler. Incredibly, it actually declined to around 18,000 homicides between March 2004 and April 2005.

In the same period Canada had less than 600 murders. Something for all you warm fuzzy lefties to consider the next time you're criticising Canada or America.

UPDATE: Here's a typically South African solution.
South Africa's AIDS crisis is fueling a second epidemic as obesity steadily rises, particularly among women who gain pounds to prove they don't have the disease.
More traditional medicine folly.
JAKARTA (AP): A 4-year-old girl suspected of having bird flu left the hospital Monday after family members decided against the advice of doctors to treat her at home with traditional medicine, officials said Monday.

Email sent to Mayor Marie Trainer was also sent to us and it states, "About 90 minutes ago, Judge Marshall, the Attorney General and a group of lawyers had a conference call. It was decided, based on secret meetings yesterday, that the Liberal Government does not have the option to appeal.
Still no confirmation from a second source, but this would be a big one for residents if true.

Would you like jobs with that?

Apparently not.

WE'LL JUST HAVE A POTLATCH:
Tofino, B.C. — A Vancouver Island native community has been forced to close its band office and lay off most of its staff because of a $60,000 dinner it hosted last month. “
We've had to shut down our office and lay off the staff to try to deal with the problems we are having financially,” Mr. Martin said Thursday.
Pull out the chequebook, I think this calls for more Aboriginal Healing.

Of course that would be on top of the $138,765.00 they got in March 2006 from Health Canada.

Might as well check out the whole Health Canada grant system while you're at it. Well... they actually only bother to list anything over $25,000.00

Anything less is apparently chump change.

Disarming the fascists

Cops must put away the guns... because criminals have feelings too.
A left-leaning judge has shocked Toronto Police with an order that uniformed cops could not testify in his court if they wear their guns.

Ontario Court Justice Melvyn Green told a flabbergasted cop witness in a routine impaired driving case Tuesday to "check his gun somewhere."

Const. Chris Horton walked a gantlet of criminals as he stored his gun in a basement storage locker, the cop union says.
Of course, when push came to shove, Justice Green had an epiphany.
Green -- forewarned of possible police brass and union intervention -- tossed the gun issue in the laps of prosecutors and defence lawyers.

"It's their trial, not my trial ... if there is no objection, I am not going to raise the objection myself," the judge said. "It is a question of fairness and the appearance of fairness ... for the optics of the parties."
**********

UPDATE: Thank Dalton McGuinty for this nonsense.

Who is Melvyn Green?
Green was one of three lawyers who took the case of cop killer Clinton Gayle to the Ontario Court of Appeal in 2001. Gayle, who was 26 at the time of the Baylis murder, was found near Baylis' shooting with 14.5 grams of crack cocaine and an illegal, loaded semi-automatic handgun.

The James Bay Treaty - Treaty No. 9

It occurs to me that the Spokeswarriors at Caledonia never actually refer to any specific legal event or instance when they talk about how they've been ripped off by the government. It's always "two hundred years ago this", and "clan mothers that". It would be pretty interesting to look at some of the actual documents, wouldn't it? How about, just for a hoot, we check out the James Bay Treaty of 1905?
And the undersigned Ojibeway, Cree and other chiefs and headmen, on their own behalf and on behalf of all the Indians whom they represent, do hereby solemnly promise and engage to strictly observe this treaty, and also to conduct and behave themselves as good and loyal subjects of His Majesty the King.
That sounds pretty reasonable to me. It's a sort of contract, where each side agrees to certain conditions. You'd think that would make it fairly easy to figure out who's been naughty or nice. I mean, this thing, as legal documents are wont to do, is fairly specific.
They promise and engage that they will, in all respects, obey and abide by the law; that they will maintain peace between each other and between themselves and other tribes of Indians, and between themselves and others of His Majesty's subjects, whether Indians, half-breeds or whites, this year inhabiting and hereafter to inhabit any part of the said ceded territory; and that they will not molest the person or property of any inhabitant of such ceded tract, or of any other district or country, or interfere with or trouble any person passing or travelling through the said tract, or any part thereof, and that they will assist the officers of His Majesty in bringing to justice and punishment any Indian offending against the stipulations of this treaty, or infringing the law in force in the country so ceded.
Now, I'm no lawyer, but what say we bring out the pieces of paper and get this thing whipped?

Oh darn, that's right... the natives say they can't be governed by the white man's system of justice. Ok boys... back to the barricades.

Drop in & curse ISRAEL

Hey bloggers, make way for the big guy. Noted Holocaust denier & Iranian Prez Madman Ahmadinejad has joined the blogosphere and much like Keith Richards or David Hasselhof he's perfectly willing, even a little anxious, to share his beauty secrets with all his fans.
During the era that nobility was a prestige and living in a city was perfection, I was born in a poor family in a remote village of Garmsar-approximately 90 kilometer east of Tehran.
He also cares what you think.
Do you think that the US and Israeli intention and goal by attacking Lebanon is pulling the trigger for another word war?
Cynics will tell you the Madman actually meant to say "World War" here, but I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. It would just be too creepy & frightening to have the go-to guy for the Iranian nuclear bomb to be polling on "triggering World War III" as his intro to the world wide web.

UPDATE: Tue. Aug 15, 2006 - Website still refers to "word war", not World War. See, it's all gonna be ok.

Six Nations? More like Sixty.

So, what is the unifying idealogical principle behind the siege at Caledonia? Turns out the occupation has all the philosophical coherence of an unsupervised nursery school recess.

Hardly surprising, given that the natives apparently take their cues from such stalwart proponents of democracy as (a) Yassir Arafat, (b) Hugo Chavez and (c) Josef Stalin.
The Palestinian flag flaps below a bright-red Mohawk Warrior flag. Venezuela's yellow, blue and red has been pinned to a wooden board. Farther down the barricaded road into the Douglas Creek Estates construction site, natives have hoisted the sickle-and-hammer standard of the former Soviet Union.
The natives would have you believe that the occupation of the site has lasted for six months simply because the wily white man refuses to negotiate.

Here's the biggest reason in a nutshell. When the natives aren't brawling with residents of the town, they're fighting amongst themselves.

Try as he might, even native apologist cum negotiator David Peterson can't really paint the process in a flattering light.
“There's a constant dynamic inside the place; it's like a swirling cauldron,” said David Peterson, the former Ontario premier who negotiated the removal of the blockade of two main roads in Caledonia. “Nobody answers to anybody. They all answer to each other."
And what about the respect for the traditional chiefs and clan mothers? The Globe tried to get an interview with one of the mythical clan mothers, but apparently no one could scare one up.
Only about 20 of the 50 traditional chiefs attend gatherings, according to one of the chiefs, Arnold General. And clan mothers remain an elusive entity, even to the protesters.

“I told my clan mother the other night I'm not going to leave,” Doreen Silversmith told reporters last week. “I said: ‘I don't care if you tell us to go, nobody's going to leave.' Then, she walked away from reporters.
(HANG ON, WAIT FOR IT...) She returned after five minutes, accompanied by Ms. Jamieson, to retract her comments.
UPDATE: Ah, Doreen, you little rascal, no wonder the Six Nations sent you to Geneva to lay out the Caledonia situation for the UN. That was at the beginning of May this year, wasn't it?
Hope you didn't forget to tell them about somebody torching the local hydro substation, or about jumping the dumb ole' coppers & the US Border Patrol guy and then stealing their ride.
My personal favourite has to be when the natives dug a trench across the main street in town with a backhoe. You guys are such jokers! I bet Kofi and the boys couldn't stop laughing at that one.
Tell me again, Doreen, who was it paid the freight on that little jaunt? I have to confess, I'd be a little annoyed if I found out it was me, the taxpayer.

It now seems that Dalton McGuinty, having decided not to enforce the rule of law as laid out by Justice David Marshall, may be shadow boxing in Caledonia for some time to come.

I almost feel sorry for him.

OK, I take it back.

Unlike the unruly mob in Toronto yesterday with the matching Hezbollian songs, flags & tees... (spitting on Canadian law by supporting an acknowledged terrorist group while police stood by watching a la Caledonia), this woman DOES have the right to make a statement about Canadian soldiers deaths in Afghanistan.
"Their hearts have been deadened, their minds and thoughts twisted, their vision clouded and their hearing deafened," Angela Reid told about 300 mourners at the funeral for her son, Cpl. Christopher Reid, in Truro, N.S.

She then urged the people of Afghanistan to work with the NATO-led coalition forces, prompting a standing ovation from the gathering. "I make this simple request to the Afghan people: Reach out and grab on to the help we offer to you in good faith. Together, and only together, can we succeed," she said.
As do these people.
Walsh, 33, was killed Aug. 9 in the accidental discharge of a rifle by another Canadian soldier. Officials are conducting an investigation into Walsh's death. "Jeff believed in his job and felt he could make a change in Afghanistan. We, his parents, support Jeff and all the Forces members in Afghanistan and all our peacekeepers," Ben and Margie Walsh of Regina said in a statement.
It's always refreshing to see the hyphenated-nationality rabble (who hide behind the Canadian passport while supporting terrorism & murder) out for a little pseudo-jihad.

Here's a thought... maybe you could head back to the Middle East and put your "principles" where your nasty, hateful mouths are. Then you could demonstrate at least as much committment to YOUR country of birth, as these brave men have done for Canada.

Yeah, I didn't think so.

Same planet, different worlds.

Another Canadian soldier has been murdered by an Islamofascist suicide bomber.

So before you head out to the local Hezbollah "Kill All the Jews" Protest & Peace Rally, remember that you're dealing with people who think it's ok to strap bombs to their own children. Turn on the TV and you can see the Hezbollites dancing around celebrating when their murderous offspring blow other human beings to pieces. These people are truly from some other world that I cannot begin to comprehend.

Now, this is indeed a tragedy for Canadian Medic Andrew James Eykelenboomand and his family, but before the looney left starts screeching about all the Canadians being slaughtered, let's put this into perspective.

Including the civilian death of a diplomat, 26 Canadians have died in Afghanistan since 2002. That's not quite 7 deaths per year. In Canada, 120 people are killed in farming accidents every year. Ten times that number are badly injured.

You are nearly 20 times more likely to be killed on the farm as on patrol in Khandahar.

Oh yeah, one more thing... the Israelis had 19 of their sons, brothers and husbands killed in action over the last 24 hours.

This is war and this is what our all-volunteer soldiers do. Let's not disrespect them by playing politics with their deaths.

I'm guessing Jeff and his lawyer both vote yes.

Death wish for a terrorist attack

UPDATE: No "broad strata" of society in Brit threat.
A leading terrorism expert says Canada's Liberal open-door immigration policy is a "death wish" for a terrorist attack here.

Harris said the problem of homegrown terrorists also stems from flawed immigration policies, since Canada is building "colonies of isolation" with the extensive penetration of certain ethnic groups. That has a ghettoizing effect that fuels isolation and imagined racial or religious supremacy, he said.
Other countries take a more pro-active approach.
Two British Muslims arrested eight to ten days ago in Lahore and Karachi gave vital information about the alleged plot to detonate chemical suicide bombs on US-bound passenger jets, officials in Pakistan claimed today.
I'll bet they did. I'm thinkin' the ISI (Pakistani Secret Police) were a little less concerned about the terrorists civil rights than Chief Blair and the coppers in Toronto.
Scene: A small brightly lit room with a bucket of water and a hand cranked generator sitting nearby. A dapper interrogator talks to a blindfolded suspect tied naked to a chair.
"Goodness gracious my friend, I must be having some co-operation about this matter. I am just getting off the telephone with my good friend George Bush and he is most angry with you... veddy, veddy angry."

Camera pulling back: Fade to black as screams and the smell of overdone hamburger fill the room.
Still, it's hard to argue with results.

That's funny, the Brits don't cave.

Deputy Commissioner Paul Stephenson of the Metropolitan Police said in a briefing today: "We are confident that we have disrupted a plan by terrorists to cause untold death and destruction and, quite frankly, to commit mass murder.
I'm guessing John Ibbitson wouldn't approve.

Caving in on Caledonia

UPDATE 11/08/06: The Globe gets a second opinion from Jacob Ziegel - Professor Emeritus of Law at the University of Toronto.
So, the question remains: Why should the Six Nations protesters be treated differently? Certainly, the threat of violence is no excuse; in fact, it compounds the contempt of court.
NOTE: To his credit Mr. Ibbitson did reply to my email regarding my conjecture about public response (I believe I used the phrase "shitstorm of protest") to his article. He stated, "Noted. Yes, the majority (and the editorial board) are on your side." He also stands by his writing despite the flak he took. While totally disagreeing with his opinion, I can respect that.

ORIGINAL POST follows:

In todays Globe & Mail, John Ibbitson tells us that violence trumps the rule of law... in Canada anyway. He states categorically...
There is the principled rule of law, and then there is reality.
So what is the reality in Caledonia, according to John?
In Caledonia, militant natives have seized land to protest against what they see as the unwillingness of the federal government to settle their land claim. They have already demonstrated a propensity for violence. People close to the scene are absolutely convinced that, if the Ontario Provincial Police try to disperse the occupation, people will be killed or seriously hurt.
At the risk of having my nuanced, peacekeeping Canadian citizenship questioned, I have a couple of questions.
    (1) Objectively, what is the difference between this group of apparently homicidal maniacs in Caledonia and this other group in Great Britain?
LONDON — British police have arrested 21 people in connection with a bombing plot that they say would have caused "mass murder on an unimaginable scale" on commercial aircraft flying from Britain to the United States.
    (2) What's the plan for dealing with any other group (Hezbollah, Hell's Angels, etc.) who are likewise prepared to "demonstrate their propensity for violence" in furtherance of their particular agenda?
The answer seems obvious to John Ibbitson, David Peterson and of course, Dalton McGuinty's Liberals. Unlike our stalwart allies in Great Britain and yes, the United States of America, we uber-diversified, peace-loving Canadians, instead of applying the rule of law... should just bend over and take it.

David Peterson clear things up.

File this one under "Idiots, Explosives & Falling Anvils".
“It's been a very volatile and tender situation,” Mr. Peterson said. “My biggest concern is that . . . some strange accident could happen.”
Umm, yeah... like somebody accidentally putting a 30 calibre bullet in a deer rifle and firing it in the direction of someone else? I guess tender is one word.

The always helpful former Liberal Premier, currently best known as the failed negotiator of the Caledonia contretemps thus far, was also quick to criticise the judicial ruling.
David Peterson, the former Ontario premier who got the land claim negotiations underway earlier this year, called Marshall's ruling ''a little bizarre.''
Maybe I'm getting confused here, but was Mr. Peterson (how come he's no longer negotiating, anyway?) supposed to be a neutral mediator, or a mouthpiece for the Mohawk Nation?

In any case, he's apparently on the same page as the current Liberal Premier.
When asked if the province would abide by the judge's ruling, Premier Dalton McGuinty replied: "It's the kind of thing that we're going to want take some time to carefully consider.
UPDATE: 1:38 pm
Toronto — Ontario is going to appeal a judge's order to end negotiations in a five-month long aboriginal standoff at Caledonia, Ont., Attorney-General Michael Bryant announced Wednesday.
Lord love a duck... so much for "the rule of law."

Pay no attention...

...to the man behind the curtain.

This morning the Globe & Mail made 5 separate references to the Federal Government in this article regarding Justice Marshall's ruling.
The judgment threatens to derail behind-the-scenes negotiations between natives and the federal and provincial governments.

"Barricades must come down, the rule of law return and the police begin to enforce the law on the property," said Judge Marshall, who has repeatedly summoned the province, provincial police, native leaders and the federal government to his Cayuga, Ont., courtroom to demand why his February order to clear the disputed site has not been carried out.

Earlier in the evening, after a meeting, Six Nations representatives said they plan to ignore the ruling and continue negotiations. One spokesperson suggested that federal officials had already been in contact.

In the past, all sides have called on Ottawa to step in, but the federal government has usually characterized the dispute as a provincial matter. Yesterday, Deirdra McCracken, a spokeswoman for Indian Affairs Minister Jim Prentice, said the government is considering the judge's ruling.

According to Janie Jamieson, another spokeswoman, federal authorities had contacted them earlier in the day
.
Is Dalton McGuinty about to be benched? Given his lamentable performance on this matter for the last five months... he might even be happy to trot off to the sidelines.

God knows, the feds couldn't make the situation any worse.

CALEDONIA BLOCKADES BACK UP?

Looks like things are starting to go sideways.
UPDATE: Just In: 11:30 pm - Natives have a water cannon and using it against Residents. Residents are trying to steal Native Flags. One Resident did steal a flag and was immediately jumped on by OPP and kicked while he was on the ground. Residents demanded OPP names etc., Officer Fitzgerald #8471
UPDATE: Globe & Mail reporting at 10:01 pm *** Apparently Premier Dalton McGuinty hasn't decided whether he's on board with Inspector Babbitt (see below)... or that pesky Justice Marshall. ***
When asked if the province would abide by the judge's ruling, Premier Dalton McGuinty replied: "It's the kind of thing that we're going to want take some time to carefully consider.
That kind of thing, in this case being, you know, the law of the land.
*******************************************************************

Earlier in the day, in the thick of all this, Caledoniawakeupcall.com quotes OPP Inspector Douglas Babbitt as saying, "Judge Marshall's court ruling changes nothing."

My first thought was, there's no way even a copper two weeks out of Police College would say something like this... but unbelievably, it's on the local tv station. Can you say, "career limiting move?"

UPDATE: 9:50 pm *** Did somebody just blink? ***
A map of police, native & resident activity is being updated in real time. Police reinforcements were in the area and have been deployed.
Just In: 9:50 pm - Natives have removed Hydro Tower to side of road - Natives standing around roadway - currently just slowing traffic down.
Looks like it's back to the trenches.
Just In: 9:20 pm - Natives are now moving Hydro Towers across Argyle Rd - OPP standing by doing nothing.

Just In: 8:50 pm - 300 to 400 Natives are now gathered within 50 feet of residents' homes along DCE property. Currently only 10 OPP officers are present. Most residents have or are moving their children to other locations. The Natives have set up loud speakers telling residents they will not obey the Judge
.
It's hard to believe the OPP couldn't see this coming. Surely there are more officers somewhere in the area.

The Way Out Games?

A parade of topless porn stars down Queen St has been approved by Auckland City Council staff without telling councillors who want to stop it.

Erotica Expo organiser Steve Crow has permission for the lunchtime parade on August 23 featuring up to 30 porn stars in cars or on the back of motorcycles from Karangahape Rd to the bottom of Queen St. The expo opens at the ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane two days later.
Hey, here's another chance for Toronto Mayor David Miller to promote, uh... diversity.

Actually, on second thought, it's probably pretty tame compared to the Gay Pride Parade.

Just forget I mentioned it.

Caledonia: No more negotiating...

...until the terrorism stops.
CAYUGA, Ont. (CP) — A judge is ordering an end to negotiations between the province and aboriginal protesters over a contentious tract of land until the occupiers move off the property.
Apparently not everyone in the political & legal systems has been neutered.
”It is common knowledge that the people of Caledonia, after five months of occupation, have seen security in their town replaced by lawlessness, protesters in battle fatigues, police officers in riot in gear,” Judge Marshall said.
Bravo for Justice David Marshall. Caledoniawakeupcall has audio and the court transcript.

UPDATE: Opposition Leader John Tory weighs in.
"It is a shameful day for Ontario when a judge has to act to uphold the rule of law in Ontario because Dalton McGuinty won't," said Tory. "It's the job of the Ontario government to protect Ontarians but the McGuinty Liberals have completely failed." Tory continued: "Dalton McGuinty has allowed criminal contempt and occupation to be used as bargaining chips. He has overseen lawlessness and unacceptable behaviour on all sides and done absolutely nothing to stop it. He should have had all parties into his office months ago to pressure them to respect the rule of law."

Natives targetted 89 y/o man

Funny, none of the previous mainstream media reports mentioned this...
Haldimand County Mayor Marie Trainer, who was present when the rocks were being thrown, said the altercation erupted after aboriginals sparked a fire.

But Trainer said residents were already angry as aboriginals had thrown rocks earlier at the home of an 89-year-old man whose house borders the occupied land.

"They started throwing rocks at his home, and of course that got the neighbours going who wanted to protect him and started throwing rocks back," she said.
So what's next on the native agenda? Tipping over baby carriages? Were the OPP just standing by watching this happen?

It'll be interesting to see how Justice Marshall rules today on the Caledonia injunction.

Hezbollywood revealed

Have reefer truck, will travel.

It ain't all dead children & photo ops, ya know. Well, actually, I guess it is.
"Mr. Shadi was standing in front of a refrigeration truck that was packed with 20 bodies, days after he helped bury 74 bodies in a mass grave. When he opened the door to show the black body bags haphazardly piled on top of each other, a staggering stench came out, despite the refrigeration. Next to the truck stood 40 empty wooden caskets, waiting for new arrivals."

Based on these descriptions, it seems highly likely that Abu Shadi the mortician and Abu Shadi the green-helmeted "civil defense worker" are one and the same. And, in the double role, Abu Shadi was among the first to arrive, before the media did, with his refrigerated truck that in recent days had been carrying around corpses.

Try to imagine

What would happen without the 600 cops? Hey, it must be Caribana time again.
By the time most of Toronto wakes up, , they'll never know about the hundreds of liquor bottles, marijuana roaches and pepper spray-packing cops that only hours ago blanketed every corner of Yonge St. between Shuter and College Sts. They'll never know about the estimated 17,000 people taking over the street.
The good news is nobody died this year, but there were a number of stabbings and hey, here's something to proudly trumpet...
The increased police presence seems to be largely successful, as there's just one gun-related incident all night.
I saw where Global TV was interviewing revellers and asking them what they thought about Caribana being saturated with police & their new video surveillance cameras. A couple of folks stated that it was fine as long as every other Toronto event got identical treatment... presumably to curb the spontaneous outbreaks of handgun violence at U of T Frosh Week & the Santa Claus parade.

Funny, the Caribana organisation, which gets hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars every year seems to be a bit of a deadbeat.
Serious reforms are required before the CCC can run the festival again, almost everyone agrees. The organization has been a chronic debtor. It had so much trouble paying some of its bills on time that the city started holding back festival funding in order to give it directly to some of its creditors, including the police and Exhibition Place. Its offices are in a city-owned building on Hamilton Street, Caribana House, near Dundas and Broadview, which the city allows it to use for free as long as it pays the property taxes. That bill is more than $36,000 past due.
Oh well... this is good old multicult Canada.

Sure it's great fun...

...until somebody loses a child.
Last Thursday, three children were killed in a wedding celebration during which gunshots were fired in celebration. PCHR's preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 21:15 on Thursday, 3 August 2006, three children were killed in a wedding ceremony when a gunman lost control of his assault rifle as he was shooting in the air in celebration.
By now, everyone has seen footage of insanely upbeat Palestinians celebrating (usually the death of some infidel or other) by firing their guns straight up in the air... confirming speculation that Physics 101 ain't on the curriculum at the local Madrassah.

If anyone still has any doubts about how seriously culturally fucked up the Palestinians are, well... this tragedy kind of ends the argument.

What more can I say, except that this seems like a perfect metaphor for what's wrong with the fundamentalist Islamic movement in the middle east.
